Karen (Hickey) Vaccaro, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2023 at the age of 64. Karen faced many challenges throughout her life, including her multiple sclerosis diagnosis at the age of 17. Despite this, she remained resilient and always lit up a room with her smile. She was a true inspiration.
Karen was born on November 18,1958 in Albany, NY to William (deceased) and Frances Hickey. She was predeceased by her husband, John and is survived by her son, Ryan. Other survivors include her mother Frances, siblings; Patty (Sal), Susan (Kristen), Bill (Cheryl), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Karen attended Milne High School and Albany Business College. She was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal until she could no longer work due to her illness. Karen’s favorite pastimes included camping at Lake George, long car rides, and hanging out with family and friends. Her kindness, positivity, and unwavering strength will be deeply missed. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched during her time here on earth.
The family extends sincere thanks to Karen’s many friends and staff at Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the compassion, love, and care provided throughout the past year.
A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at Magin and Keegan Funeral Home 891 Madison Avenue Albany, NY on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen’s memory to Shaker Place Activity Account 100 Heritage Lane Albany, NY 12211.
